Odds ‘n’ Ends

- We keep a daily chart of Elliot’s movements (standard procedure at our health care provider), tracking how long it takes for him to have 10 movements in one sitting. It’s usually 10 minutes or less, and often just a few minutes. Tania says it feels like he’s feeling around, trying to find the exit–y’know, kind of like when you’re trying to find your way to the bathroom in the dark. We keep telling him he’s not finished yet!
- I think I’ll take that chart and OLAP it…
- The San Antonio Spurs rule.
- Those “New Parents” classes that hospitals conduct should have large “Explicit Content” labels displayed in plain sight on the front doors. Geez. At least warn a brutha’.
- Lil’ tip from Tobias: do your kids a favor and buy American toys this holiday season. Or European toys. Or make your own toys. Just stay away from those “made in China” toys. From high lead content, to chemicals metabolizing into the ‘date rape’ drug , to just super-shoddy quality, the toys from China really are worth the trouble of avoiding now. Of course, it is trouble avoiding them. The estimates of Chinese toys on American store shelves seem to range from between 80% and 90%. And this year’s toy recall is the biggest in U.S. history. Heck, people, kids don’t need that many toys. And since most toys don’t get a ton of play time anyway, getting less of them–the right ones, as best you can–makes more sense, for both finance and safety.
